In 2000, Mark Radcliffe set up Victorian Plumbing in his parents’ shed. Twenty years on, he has made a new fortune – PS1bn from his online plumbing business. Mark Radcliffe’s stake in Victorian Plumbing could be worth PS1bn, as it could outstrip the estimated PS365m fortune of Queen Elizabeth II. Victorian Plumbing began as a hobby of Radcliffe’s father, who restored Victorian bathrooms. He built an additional shed to sell his retail products. Victorian Plumbing is a specialist in bathroom products and accessories. The business began life in a garden shed in Southport. Then, Radcliffe began selling items on eBay. In 2005, he was selling them for PS5. In 2017, Victorian Plumbing reported net profits of PS5m, with margins increasing 40.2% over the previous year. During the year to 30 September 2020, Victorian Plumbing said revenue would increase by 29 per cent. Besides Radcliffe, the company has five other people in its senior management team. Stephnie Judge has been with the company since 2013. She was promoted to General Manager in 2016 and has been instrumental in its growth. She will replace Radcliffe as MD on March 1, 2020. The company has no retail footprint and stocks all its products in central warehouses.
